WHAT IS CRUISE INSURANCE?

Cruises are becoming an increasingly popular option for a holiday. Whether venturing on the wide open seas, sailing off shore in more secluded waters or simply gliding downriver, cruises are the perfect way to experience a variety of often diverse destinations in comfortable and convenient surroundings.

Some traditional travel insurance policies exclude cover for cruise holidays, while others may offer additional cover for some specific risks like missing a port stop. While TUI travel insurance doesn’t currently provide optional cruise cover extras, our policies do protect you while on your cruise under our regular sections of cover in case anything goes wrong.

Some cruise providers do ask you to take out specific Cruise cover for your holiday, so check your trip booking documents carefully to see whether it’s required for your trip of choice.

Does regular travel insurance cover cruises?

Some traditional travel insurance policies exclude cover for cruise holidays, while others may offer additional cover for some specific risks like missing a port stop.

While TUI travel insurance doesn’t currently provide these optional cruise cover extras, our policies do provide cover under our regular sections of cover for cruise holidays in case anything goes wrong. This would include cover for a helicopter rescue off the ship in urgent medical cases.

How much does cruise insurance cost?

Cover for cruise travel is included as part of the TUI travel insurance policy. The cost of cover and your eligibility for it, will depend on a number of factors, such as your age, whether you have any pre-existing medical conditions and the length of your trip.

Why do you need cruise travel insurance?

Though plenty of cruise holidays go without a hitch, the experience can be far from smooth sailing. You could have a virus outbreak on the ship, your luggage could go missing or you could miss your sailing because of a delayed flight. For this reason, travel insurance for your cruise can be just as important as your passport.

Although travel insurance isn’t a legal requirement, it’s still incredibly important if you want to be covered while you’re at sea. With Cruise holiday insurance you can relax, knowing that you’ve got cover in place.

I have a pre-existing medical condition; can I still get cruise insurance?

Our policies exclude cover for claims relating to pre-existing medical conditions, unless they have been declared to and accepted in writing by our medical team. Our team will be able to advise whether or not cover can be provided for your condition. In some cases an additional medical upgrade premium may be needed.
